Singapore – In a stunning upset, Carlos Sainz of Ferrari clinched victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, ending Red Bull Racing’s unprecedented 15-race winning streak.
Red Bull, which had dominated the Formula One season thus far, suffered a disappointing qualifying session on Saturday, with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez starting from the 11th and 13th positions on the grid, respectively. This gave Sainz, who had secured pole position, a golden opportunity to capitalize on Red Bull’s misfortune.
The Spaniard did not disappoint, delivering a flawless performance to secure his second and Ferrari’s first career victory. McLaren’s Lando Norris finished second, with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton completing the podium.
Verstappen salvaged some points with a fifth-place finish, but his championship lead was reduced to 116 points with just seven races remaining in the season. Perez, on the other hand, finished a disappointing eighth.
The race was also marked by several incidents, including a safety car deployment on lap 20 and a virtual safety car period towards the end of the race. These incidents allowed the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and George Russell to switch to new tires and charge the order late. However, Russell crashed out in the race’s final stages, while Hamilton could not catch up with Norris and Perez.
Sainz’s victory at the Singapore Grand Prix was a major boost for Ferrari and a sign that the team is finally starting to challenge Red Bull for the championship. It was also a testament to Sainz’s talent and determination, as he produced a masterful performance to overcome Red Bull’s dominance and claim a memorable victory.
