The Philippines, under the guidance of Coach Josh Reyes, has earned the right to compete on the world stage alongside basketball powerhouses like China, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Guinea, Egypt, and the host nation Turkey in the Fiba U17 World Cup.

Kieffer Alas emerged as the day’s hero for Gilas Youth, shooting the lights out with a near-double-double performance, amassing 29 points and nine rebounds in just 32 minutes of play.

Joaquin Ludovice and Kurt Velasquez also contributed significantly to the team’s victory, chipping in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Despite a sluggish first half and a 10-point deficit, Alas and his teammates clawed back into the game, reducing Japan’s lead to a single point at 46-45 just before the final ten minutes of play.

The game witnessed ten lead changes as Gilas Youth executed a remarkable comeback to secure a hard-fought victory against a determined Japanese side.
