The Muntinlupa Cagers pulled off an upset victory over the Makati Super Crunchers, 85-81, in the OKBet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Fifth Season round-robin elimination round on Thursday at the Strike Gymnasium in San Juan City.
John Amores had a stellar performance for Muntinlupa, scoring 16 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. He also had 2 steals and a block.
Makati was led by Rob Celiz, who had 19 points. But Celiz missed a layup in the final seconds that would have given Makati the win.
The victory improved Muntinlupa’s record to 14-10, while Makati dropped to 7-17.
The other games on Thursday saw the San Juan Knights rout the Valenzuela XUR Homes Realty, 115-86, the Paranaque Patriots edge the Imus SV Squad, 86-81, and the Quezon City Capitals defeat the Bacoor Strikers, 89-85.
The MPBL action continues on Friday with the following games:
- Quezon Province Aguilas vs. Negros Slashers
- Manila Stars vs. Zamboanga Valientes
- Caloocan Supremos vs. Bicol Volcanoes
The games will be played at the Strike Gymnasium.
