The Kurashiki Ablaze continued their unbeaten run in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference, sweeping the Cignal HD Spikers in three sets, 25-23, 25-16, 25-23, on Monday at the Philsports Arena.
Kyoka Ohshima, the captain of Kurashiki Ablaze, proved to be a pivotal player in this encounter. Despite being sidelined in the previous game due to illness, she made a remarkable comeback, displaying exceptional skills with 22 excellent sets and contributing three crucial points. Her presence on the court significantly impacted her team’s performance.
Asaka Tamaru also played a vital role in Kurashiki’s victory. With a stunning debut performance of 29 points in their previous match against Vietnam’s Kinh Bac-Bac Ninh, Tamaru continued her impressive form by contributing 16 points in the clash against Cignal HD Spikers. The support from Saya Taniguchi and Yukino Nano, who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, further bolstered Kurashiki’s offensive prowess.
The match against Cignal HD Spikers was not without challenges for Kurashiki Ablaze. They faced an 8-13 deficit in the fourth set but showcased remarkable resilience by scoring six consecutive points. With crucial attacks from Asaka Tamaru and Saki Tanabe, Kurashiki turned the tide and secured the victory.
Despite the loss, Cignal HD Spikers exhibited resilience throughout the match. Their tall blocking pattern posed a challenge to Kurashiki’s offense, but they also faced difficulties in countering Kurashiki’s relentless spiking.
Individual players from Cignal HD Spikers also showed glimpses of brilliance. Rachel Anne Daquis and setter Gel Cayuna demonstrated skill and determination, earning praise from the Kurashiki coach.
With this win, Kurashiki Ablaze remains unbeaten in the PVL Invitational Conference. They will next face the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.
