Netizens Defend Obiena Amid Doping Allegations from Lavillenie’s Wife

Netizens Stand by Obiena Amid Doping Allegations from Lavillenie's Wife

Filipino netizens have come out in defense of world No. 2 pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena after the wife of French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie made controversial comments accusing him of doping.

Anais Lavillenie, wife of the 2012 Olympic champion, limited her Instagram comment box and deleted her Facebook comment on Obiena supposedly doping after receiving backlash from netizens.

Obiena’s team is mulling legal options, according to a post on the world No. 2 pole vaulter’s Facebook page.

“I will let the story evolve while my team explores the many angles including legal. I guess this is part of the price you pay when you win,” he wrote.

Obiena is fresh off a gold medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, as he prepares for the upcoming Olympics next year in Paris, France.

Netizens expressed their disgust over Anais Lavillenie’s comments, with many pointing out that she has no evidence to support her claim. They also defended Obiena, saying that he is a clean athlete who has worked hard for his success.
