According to head coach Yeng Guiao, rain or Shine will face a tough challenge in the upcoming Jones Cup. The team will be without imports, but Guiao is determined to lead the team with the same gung-ho spirit they are known for.
The Jones Cup is a prestigious international basketball tournament that features teams from all over Asia. This year’s competition will be even more challenging than usual, featuring national teams from Iran, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and the host country, Taiwan.
In addition to these national teams, Rain or Shine will face formidable teams like the U-21 team of Japan and the KBL and EASL champion Anyang KGC.
Despite the tough competition, Guiao is confident that his team can compete. He said the team is committed to representing the Philippines in the best possible way.
“We know we will be facing tough opponents,” Guiao said. “But we are determined to give our best and represent the Philippines with pride.”
To strengthen the team, Rain or Shine has added naturalized player Ange Kouame and veteran big man Nick Evans to the roster. Kouame and Evans are expected to provide the team with much-needed size and experience.
Guiao is also grateful to Rain or Shine co-team owners Raymund Yu and Terry Que for their support in allowing the team to participate in the Jones Cup.
“We are grateful to Raymund and Terry for their support,” Guiao said. “Their willingness to lend players to the national team demonstrates their commitment to Philippine basketball.”
The Jones Cup will be held from August 12-20 in Taipei, Taiwan.
