Slovenia Advances Unbeaten to FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Second Round

Slovenia's Klemen Prepelic Shines in Victory Over Cape Verde

Slovenia’s basketball team continued their undefeated streak with a commanding 92-77 victory over Cape Verde in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. The victory secured Slovenia’s top seed in Group F and a spot in the Second Round, where they will face off against tougher competition.

Klemen Prepelic was the star of the show for Slovenia, scoring 18 points and adding 7 assists. Luka Doncic also had a solid game, finishing with 19 points and 9 assists.

Slovenia got off to a slow start, but they found their rhythm in the second half and pulled away to victory. They were able to capitalize on Cape Verde’s turnovers, scoring 21 points off of 29 turnovers.

With the win, Slovenia advances to the Second Round with a perfect 3-0 record. They will face off against Germany and Australia in Group K.

Head coach Aleksander Sekulic was pleased with his team’s performance. “We were focused and determined in the second half,” he said. “We were able to take advantage of Cape Verde’s turnovers and that was the difference in the game.”

Cape Verde player Edy Tavares acknowledged the difficulty of facing a team with players like Luka Doncic. “They are a very good team,” he said. “We gave it our best, but they were just too good.”

Slovenia will now turn their attention to the Second Round, where they will face tougher competition. However, they have shown that they are capable of beating anyone on their day. With a united team effort and standout performances from players like Klemen Prepelic, Slovenia will be a force to be reckoned with in the Second Round.
